"Tonight, we're excited to present a double of two independently made horror movies that rocked the 1960's and the 1970's and reverberated for decades afterwards.

AND WE'RE INCREDIBLY EXCITED TO WELCOME Phantasm WRITER/DIRECTOR DON COSCARELLI, ART DIRECTOR DAVID BROWN, PRODUCER PAUL PEPPERMAN among others to a 9pm Q&A on how they made their seminal horror movie.

First up, we screen Phantasm, the late 1970's independently made horror movie (right here in the San Fernando Valley and Los Angeles area) that follows two brothers as they slowly begin to realize that the ominous "Tall Man" undertaker of a local mortuary may actually be an other-worldly murderous being bent on destroying them both before they uncover his secret.

Coscarelli's Phantasm like so many great indie horror movies is a work 100% dedicated to its own wildly imaginative and bizarre world. Imagery like the deadly flying sphere blades that impale morturary intruders, inter dimensional gates to other planets would inspire future moviemakers to take gonzo chances with their own horror movies.

And Phantasm further elevates itself because at its heart, like all good horror, is a surprisingly profound tale about the relationship between two brothers.

After our Q&A, we'll follow this up with the grandparent indie horror movie of them all: George Romero's Night of the Living Dead. A movie that has profoundly affected EVERYTHING that came after it, Night of the Living Dead tells the story of a zombie pandemic (though the word zombie is never used in the movie!) and how a group of conflicted, argumentative living people hole up in house. They either have to start working together across class and race lines or be attacked by the undead amassing outside the doors.

STILL. . .one of the all time great horror movies with a subversive and devastating climax that has the power to shock almost 60 years later.

Join us for a great double bill. On 35mm. For any moviemaker or movielover wanting to see how great horror is made on a budget."
