After our screening of Nobuhiko Obayashi's Japanese cult classic HOUSE, we screen this programmer's all-time favorite David Lynch movie TWIN PEAKS FIRE WALK WITH ME. On 35mm.

One of the most truly horrific, mysterious, fascinating movies ever made, TWIN PEAKS FIRE WALK WITH ME acts as both a kind of epilogue and prologue to the first two seasons of TWIN PEAKS as it tells the story of the last week in the life of murdered Prom Queen Laura Palmer.

Lynch mischievously (yet brilliantly) begins with what appears to be a detour into another murder in another town that is a kind of comic mirror image of TWIN PEAKS. Yet with that subconscious north star, Lynch slowly weaves us back to the town that attracts and unsettles us and to Laura Palmer, full of emotion, contradiction, self-hate, conflict as she struggles with her last wild week.

Lynch crafted in this movie both a horror tone-poem to a transcendental other world and possibly the best metaphor for the trauma of sexual abuse at the hands of someone you should be able to trust.

A movie filled with incredible imagery, performances, atmosphere, TWIN PEAKS FIRE WALK WITH ME is, for this programmer's money, Lynch's cinematic masterpiece."
